DCM: Orientation for New Members

 1 hr

Orientation is the first step in becoming an active producer with Denver Community Media. The class is a 60-minute introduction and overview of our program, including how to navigate our non-commercial practices, identify your underwriters, cover your assets, find your way around our website, and learn how to get the best out of your DCM membership. This is the time to ask questions, talk about your projects, and get a full tour of our production facilities. This class is mandatory for all new members and is a prerequisite for using DCM services, equipment and facilities.

Camera & Field Production

DCM: Pocket Production  1 hr How to shoot with your cell phone and edit in Adobe Express. Learn the basics of enhancing your content filmed with your cell phone. This workshop will cover a variety of topics including things to consider before you shoot, your rights for shooting in public spaces, the best phone settings to use, and navigating Adobe Express for fast editing. DCM: Intro to Camera

Learn the basics of how photo and video recording work and how to intentionally setup your camera to support your creativity. The class includes an introduction to exposure, composition and lighting. This class is NOT a required field equipment certification prerequisite.

DCM: Sony A7s Mirrorless Camera Certification   2 hr

The Field Equipment Certification class will equip Community Producers with the necessary skills to safely and effectively operate DCM's Sony A7s Mirrorless Cameras, lenses, tripods, and Dracast lighting equipment. Member producers will learn how to reserve and schedule field equipment, and spend time getting familiar with the equipment. The class will cover the camera menu and functionality, and best practices in lighting and shot composition, and shot lists. DCM staff will also review and recommend SD recording cards, external hard drives, and media for purchase. This class is a required prerequisite to access DCM’s field equipment for check-out and for the Sony A7s Mirrorless Cameras.

DCM: Sony FX30 Digital Cinema Camera Certification  2 hr

The Field Equipment Certification class will equip Community Producers with the necessary skills to safely and effectively operate DCM's Sony FX30 Digital Cinema Cameras, lenses, tripods, and Dracast lighting equipment. DCM: Panasonic DVX200 Camcorder Certification 2 hr

The Field Equipment Certification class will equip Community Producers with the necessary skills to safely and effectively operate DCM's Panasonic DVX200 Camcorders, tripods, and Dracast Lighting equipment. Member producers will learn how to reserve and schedule field equipment, and spend time getting familiar with the equipment. The class will cover the camera menu and functionality, and best practices in lighting and shot composition, storyboarding and shot lists. DCM staff will also review and recommend SD recording cards, external hard drives, and media for purchase. This class is a required prerequisite to access DCM’s field equipment for check-out and for the Panasonic DVX200 Camcorders.

The FX6 Cinema Camera Certification class will equip Community Producers with the necessary skills to safely and effectively operate DCM's Sony FX6 Camera. The class will cover the camera menu and functionality, as well as camera accessories including the Dana Dolly, Teradek, manual and remote follow focus and external monitors. DCM staff will also review and recommend SD recording cards, external hard drives, and media for purchase.

Studio Production & Livestreaming

DCM: Main Studio Certification

 3 hr

This class is an introduction to broadcast production. Members will be given an overview of DCM’s broadcast control room, studio equipment, and cameras. Members will also get hands-on experience shooting camera, being on-air talent, directing, working the audio board and what it takes to run a production at DCM.We will close out the class talking about show prep, starting small and Q&A if we have time.

Required to reserve the Main Studio.

DCM: ATEM Mini Pro Livestream Certification  2 hr

The ATEM Mini Pro Livestream Certification class prepares students for setting up live, in-field productions from start to finish while also offering hands-on practice and real-world applications. By taking this course, students will better understand the features and functions of the ATEM Mini Pro, and its software control, and apply that knowledge in a DCM live stream.

Required to reserve ATEM Mini Pro.

Podcasting & Audio

DCM: Digital Podcast Studio Certification

3 hr

The Digital Podcast Studio Certification Class will equip Community Producers with the necessary entry-level skills to operate DCM's podcast studio and tell their story. Producers will learn: how to develop their voice and brand, what platforms are helpful for marketing themselves, and learn how to operate the A/V production equipment including three high definition PTZ cameras, video switcher with clip playback, teleprompter, four studio microphones, audio mixer and headphones. The studio is equipped to receive live telephone and Skype calls, and can push program out to social and cable channels.

Required for Digital Podcast Studio reservation.

DCM: Podcast Authentic Storytelling (coming soon)  TBD Learn how to shape meaningful conversations and tell compelling stories through podcasting. This class covers interview techniques, narrative structure, and ways to develop a clear voice and message for your podcast.  TBD

Video Editing & Post-Production

DCM: Video Edit Certification: Adobe Premiere

The Video Edit Certification class is an introduction to video editing using Adobe Premiere software. Community Producers will receive an overview of the program, learn basic editing skills and best practices for project setup and media management, timeline navigation, audio mixing, basic titling and effects, and final program export. The class is offered in 2 two-hour sessions. Students will complete a sample video program and are welcome to bring their own projects to work on.

DCM: Video Edit Certification: DaVinci Resolve  4 hr The Video Edit Certification class is an introduction to video editing using DaVinci Resolve software. Community Producers will receive an overview of the program, learn basic editing skills and best practices for project setup and media management, timeline navigation, audio mixing, basic titling and effects, and final program export. The class is offered in 2 two-hour sessions. Students will complete a sample video program and are welcome to bring their own projects to work on. $100

DCM: Color Grading in DaVinci Resolve 3 hr The Color Grading class is an introduction to color correction using DaVinci Resolve software. Community Producers will receive an overview of the Resolve Color page, learn to read scopes and use primary color correction tools. $75

DCM: Progressive Cinema Course 4 days

The Progressive Cinema Course provides a foundation for Cinematography. It takes Community Producers through framing, lensing, lighting, light modifiers, coverage and camera movement with time to practice the concepts over 4 three-hour classes.

This course can be taken as a substitute for the FX6 certification class.
